Initial Release

Initial release of Ear Transit! I listen to background noise all the time whenever I need to work or relax (shout out to myNoise), so I thought it would be fun to make my own version that’s a desktop app and that doesn’t need to connect to the Internet. Something simple and light, too.

I started building a prototype using Lazarus + Free Pascal, but I struggled because I’m unfamiliar with Pascal. I eventually ended up going with Sciter Engine because I know how to write web apps and I love how tiny the runtime is (8MB) compared to Electron (80MB).

This initial version contains rain sounds (from DBlover on Freesound), bird sounds (from BurghRecords on Freesound), cafe sounds (from anotherotaryfatum on Freesound), and stream sounds (from BurghRecords on Freesound).

Next steps? Off the top of my head:

  • Remove audio file from RAM after playing to reduce RAM consumption.
  • Add more sound options.
  • Make a build for macOS.
