Previous builds of Ear Transit took up a lot of memory: around 118MB at launch without any audio files loaded. I know that it’s small compared to most of the apps that we use today, but this app just plays audio! It shouldn’t take up that much RAM in the first place.

So I posted a question online, and it turns out that all the MP3s were being loaded to RAM because they were a part of the executable.

It was fortunately an easy fix. All I had to do was to move the MP3s outside the executable and push another build to Itch. Now Ear Transit uses 13MB of RAM when first launching the app! New builds are out so if you have the Itch App, it’ll update automatically. Otherwise, download the new version on the Ear Transit page.
